Last fall I picked up a crashed U-Can-Do. Stripping the covering I find unique, machine cut construction methods. Wings and tail feathers utilize 1/32" plywood sandwiched between balsa layers in the L.E. and T.E. pieces. This allows for lighter and softer balsa to be used as outer layers. Also noted the cross pieces are notched and machine cut for tighter fit.
Shear webs are heavily dependent on lightening holes but split when subjected to power on,nose first arrivals. I think I'll bring this to the next Club meeting Also, the covering film is different from anything I've ever seen. Very, very strong and contributes significantly ro the airframe's strength and rigidity. Anyone need an unused U-Can-Do cowl for free? I have one.
